Spring, April and the Lower Volga are magical words to every fisherman. April is the best month to open the fishing season and for many the season starts in Astrakhan Oblast. RTG TV presenter Igor Vukolov travelled to the Lower Volga to visit one of the region’s fishing resorts where he tried to catch a pike-perch – one of the greatest river predators. Then he set his sights on another river hunter – catfish – which he tried to nab using a method traditional to the region using a «kvok».
