Commercial Fishing on the Pechora

The Pechora River is the largest river in the Komi Republic. It is full of fish, making it no surprise that for the residents of Ust-Tsilma, fishing is not only a pastime, but has been a way of life for centuries. Commercial fishermen on the Pechora use an old method of fishing, which has not changed at all over the past several centuries; they practice seine fishing by casting nets into the river from specific points on the river bank and hauling in the fish. In this programme, RTG viewers get the chance to familiarise themselves with the subtleties of tried and true fishing methods and meet Anatoly and Konstantin Pozdeev – men from Ust-Tsilma that come from a long line of fishermen.
