The Don River has been considered a sacred place for generations. Even during years when the harvest was incredibly poor, those who lived on the banks of the river were spared from suffering as local fishermen have always been able to feed their families with what they catch in the Don waters. To this day herring, carp, mullet, pike, pike-perch, royal fish and many other species of fish can be found in the industrial centre Rostov-on-Don.
