The period of June and July in St. Petersburg is a very romantic time of year – White Nights. This natural phenomenon is characteristic of northern parts of Russia and is a time when it is so light outside most of the time that it is difficult to differentiate between night and day. White Nights, in fact, are really just nights that have a very short period of twilight. These nights are also characteristically very warm and have little or no precipitation. In St. Petersburg White Nights are not simply a natural phenomenon, but a cultural and touristic one. During the summer months, travellers from all over the world flock to this breathtaking city on the bank on the Neva River in order to enjoy what seem to be endless days. RTG TV host Igor Maximenko decided to follow suit, taking a night-time bike ride around the city. In just one night and in no particular hurry he managed to see all of the key touristic sights: The raised bridges, impressive palaces and many great churches.
