The Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam

The Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam was projected in Leningrad, current Saint-Petersburg. The erection of the dam on Yenisei began in September 1968 and lasted for 7 years. The amount of concrete used for construction of this huge facility was enough to drive a highway from Saint-Petersburg to Vladivostok. Water pressure for the dam is approximately 30 million tons. The Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam forms a part of the whole complex together with the Mainskaya dam which is located 20 kilometers down the stream. The main task of the sister dam is to control water level. The presenter Igor Maximenko learnt how Sayano-Shushenskaya and Mainskaya dams cooperate, visited machine hall and Central Control Desk, as well as got to know why staff of this enterprise claim that power plan and dam are living organisms.
